How BiteLume researches and updates its content

This policy explains who is responsible for the site's guidance, which evidence we prefer, how product claims are verified and where nutrition estimates stop being reliable.

Who is BiteLume Editorial?

BiteLume Editorial is the publishing name used for guidance on this website. The site is maintained for BiteLume by its developer. It is not a clinical review board, medical practice or claim that every page was reviewed by a registered dietitian.

Our principles

  • Answer the searcher's real question before describing the app.
  • Separate measured facts, general guidance and photo-based estimates.
  • Prefer useful ranges and visible uncertainty to false precision.
  • Never promise medical accuracy, guaranteed weight change or a feature the current app listing does not support.
  • Write for people first, with search language used only where it improves clarity.

How sources are selected

For food composition, labels and general nutrition concepts, we prioritize primary public sources such as USDA, FDA, NIH and other public-health bodies. Peer-reviewed research is used when it directly answers a method or accuracy question. Commercial sources may illustrate a product claim, but they do not replace independent evidence for health guidance.

Product details—such as app version, operating-system requirements, pricing, screenshots and supported features—are checked against Apple's public App Store listing or Lookup record. Because listings change, those facts include a retrieval or update date where it matters.

How a page is prepared

  1. Define one primary question and the decision the reader is trying to make.
  2. Check the strongest directly relevant sources available.
  3. Write a concise answer, then explain assumptions, practical steps and exceptions.
  4. Verify BiteLume statements against the current public product record.
  5. Check links, health claims, page structure and visible copy before publication.

Software tools may assist drafting, consistency checks and technical quality assurance. Responsibility for the published claims, citations and corrections remains with BiteLume.

Dates, updates and corrections

Article pages show a publication date in their structured data and a visible updated date. We change the updated date only when the page receives a meaningful content revision, not for a spelling correction or automated rebuild. If stronger evidence or a material factual error is found, the relevant passage is corrected and the page's update date is changed.

The health-information boundary

BiteLume content is general information, not individualized medical or dietary care. Energy needs and appropriate tracking methods can differ during pregnancy, growth, illness, sports training and recovery from disordered eating. Readers in those situations should use guidance from a qualified professional who knows their history.

A meal-photo result is always an estimate. It should not be used for medication dosing or any condition that requires precise nutrient measurement.
